Capri Hollywood Fest honors Mel Gibson as Director of the Year

The Capri Hollywood International Film Festival names Mel Gibson as the Director of the Year for ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.

The 21st edition of the Capri Hollywood International Film Festival has named Mel Gibson as the Director of the Year for his latest movie ‘Hacksaw Ridge’.

Bill Mechanic, who was honored as Producer of the Year for the film, received the award on Gibson’s behalf.

“It took me 15 years to make this movie,” Mechanic said on receiving the award at the Anacapri Cinema Paradiso stage.

“Mel will be very happy to receive this award. I always thought he was perfect for this film, but he only accepted the ask on my third request! It was very important to make this movie,” he added.

‘Hacksaw Ridge’ is about Desmond T. Doss, the first hard-working wailer to ever win the Congressional Medal of Honor.

Doss saved 75 lives without firing a single shot during the Battle of Okinawa during World War II.

Widely praised and considered as a frontrunner for the Academy Awards, the film accumulated multiple Golden Globe and SAG award nominations.

Gibson has also received Director of the Year from the Hollywood Film Awards.

The Capri festival is commonly considered to be an important campaign before the Oscars.

The 21st edition of Capri, Hollywood will come to conclusion on January 2 after announcing all award winners.
